There
are many martial arts videos that focus on a cardiovascular
workout. Some schools that claim to teach self-defense are even offering
specialized classes dedicated solely to a “cardio workout”. |

Please
understand that by no means does this article intend to undermine the value of good
cardiovascular training. However, please take a moment to expound on their true value as far as the
martial arts and genuine self-defense are concerned.
The techniques taught in these classes or these videos are focused
primarily on increasing the heart rate, building stamina, and in turn improving
your overall health. Although the
end results are extremely beneficial, they
simply will not teach a person true self-defense. |

If
you are interested in improving your health and working out in a fun
environment, than cardiovascular techniques will help you reach your goals.
However, if you are serious about learning how to defend yourself, then
cardiovascular techniques cannot compete with a traditional martial arts school.
